A jazz concert with cheese and sherry tasting, an edible hat workshop and a festival of literature and gastronomy are just a few of the things planned for Gastrofestival Madrid. From 31 January until 15 February, this great gastronomic event celebrates its sixth edition, with an activity-packed programme presented today by Mayor Ana Botella, and in which culinary art is combined with other disciplines including painting, fashion, film and literature. As the Mayor emphasised, "this is a hugely high-profile event showcasing the quality and variety of Madrid's gastronomy scene and putting our city in the spotlight as a world-class centre of culinary art".

“Today we can truly use the expression 'From Madrid to Heaven!' thanks the Faro de Moncloa that rises up over the city and from where you can admire the city's skyline, its unique historical buildings, its parks and of course its spectacular sky”. The mayor of Madrid, Ana Botella, today presented the Faro de Moncloa rehabilitation project. Expected to reopen at the end of March, the transmission tower which was built in 1992 to commemorate the election of Madrid as a European Capital of Culture will once more become one of the city’s most impressive viewpoints.

Municipal venues are enviable settings for events held in Madrid. In 2014 Madrid Destino rented out its venues for 38 fairs, 27 congresses, 156 corporate events and 73 other gatherings, which were attended by a combined total of 1,150,000 people. 294 organisers chose to hold their events in venues managed by the municipal company, which has become a key player in promoting one of the city's strategic sectors. The company also develops the programmes for municipal cultural institutions.

Football, Madrid’s star tourist attraction at FITUR

Madrid will be one of the big destinations at the 35th annual FITUR (International Tourism Fair), which will take place from January 28 to February 1 at the IFEMA trade fair complex. Together the City Council and Regional Government of Madrid will present their respective offerings, paying special attention to football which is one of the main attractions for Spanish and foreign visitors.
